| We come to the end of our series on Socotra Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Socotra’s is home to hundreds of plants found nowhere else on earth. It is globally important for biodiversity conservation because of its extraordinary level of biodiversity Aloe Perryi is native to Socotra and can be found in most places on the island. Its bitter juice has important pharmaceutical and medicinal uses. The sap has been used locally and exported for thousands of years. It is used as a medicine, both internally to cure stomach upsets and externally applied to cuts. It is harvested and exported to the mainland and elsewhere in the Middle East, providing a valuable source of income to Socotrans. It flowers in summer and comes into new leaf after the least rain. |

Delhi Is Gasping Again, And This Time, Even the Clouds Refused to Help
Delhi is choking again. AQI levels have slipped into the ‘severe’ zone, cloud seeding failed, and emergency measures barely make a dent. Because the city doesn’t need one-off fixes, it needs long-term healing. Trees remain the simplest, most effective answer. They absorb carbon, trap dust, cool the air, and act as natural lungs. If Delhi wants cleaner winters, it needs more green cover, not just temporary interventions. Clouds may not cooperate, but trees always will.
