We continue our series on the trees found on Socotra Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Socotra can be found off the southwest coast of Yemen in the Arabian Sea and has a population of around 60,000 to 80,000 people. Soqotrans speak their own Semitic language called Soqotri, which has a variety of local dialects.

Socotran Fig Tree can grow to 8 feet in height.

The branches are twisted and grow right out of the side and top of the trunk. The bark becomes yellowish white with age.

Its flower bloom in March and are greenish yellow in colour. It is planted for ornamental purposes in many parts of the world and termites are never attracted to this tree.
