Paanisaj or Hollock or commonly known as East Indian Almond is a larger evergreen tree growing up to 40meter tall belongs to the family Combretaceae. Its habitat ranges at forests in valleys and lower hills at elevations up to 1,500 metres; evergreen primary and seasonal deciduous forests at elevations below 700 metres. It grows best in areas where the mean maximum and minimum annual temperatures are within the range 22 - 32°c, though it can tolerate 7 - 39°c. The species grows best in a well-drained, deep, fertile, loamy to clayey soil. It has varied traditional use and is valued timber and landscape tree for its region. The species has a natural range of distribution extends across the Himalayas eastwards through Myanmar to Thailand, Malasia, Indonesia and Southern China. It forms an important timber for sub-tropical belt forests also sometimes cultivated.
