Folks, here we are once more! Another year goes by, and you know what? Officially, we’ve surpassed yet another population milestone, although in 2022, we are still going strong! Yes, there are now an astounding 8.025 billion people on the planet! Let’s celebrate this milestone with a little humour and perspective.
Eight billion dreams
Consider this: 8 billion people equate to 8 billion distinct tales! Every one of us has a universe inside of ourselves, whether it be a busy city or a rural village. Our cultures, customs, and yes, even odd behaviours are diverse (look at you, dosa lover with a chinese twist! ). Humanity is so lively, so unpredictable, and ultimately, so damn exciting because of its diversity. Also, you could walk around the Earth about 25 times with 8.025 billion steps. And walking 8.025 times around the Earth at a pace of 8.025 steps per second would take almost 231.5 years! Yup we did the math Â
Living Together in a Spaceship Named Earth
Naturally, it’s easy to feel a little crowded in this small world we call home given its enormous population. Amazing technology and stunning vistas abound, but there’s always competition for the nicest bunk bedand let’s be honest, who wants the one next to the noisy garbage disposal unit?like living in a gigantic spaceship. (Spaceship reference, get it?)
How We Affect The Earth
There is also a great deal of responsibility involved in sharing this spaceship. The melting glaciers, the overflowing landfills, and the koalas’ growing grumpinessthough that may just be their natural expressionhave all been featured in documentaries. Our influence on the environment increases along with our population.
Putting the Foundation for a Sustainable Future in Place
At this point, the celebration shifts to action. Eight billion individuals may seem like a lot, but that also means there are eight billion possible answers. Small daily activities can have a significant impact on the environment. For instance, planting a single tree can help create better ecosystems, cleaner air, and a more sustainable future.
In addition to absorbing damaging carbon dioxide, planting trees also helps fight climate change, improves air quality, and offers habitat for wildlife. Therefore, keep in mind that everyone has the ability to change things the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of people on the earth.

When Mumbai’s Morning Haze No Longer Feels Like Home
Mumbai Weather Update: AQI Turns Severe as Thick Haze Persists, Free Press Journal (FPJ).

Delhi Is Gasping Again, And This Time, Even the Clouds Refused to Help
Delhi is choking again. AQI levels have slipped into the ‘severe’ zone, cloud seeding failed, and emergency measures barely make a dent. Because the city doesn’t need one-off fixes, it needs long-term healing. Trees remain the simplest, most effective answer. They absorb carbon, trap dust, cool the air, and act as natural lungs. If Delhi wants cleaner winters, it needs more green cover, not just temporary interventions. Clouds may not cooperate, but trees always will.
