Youve heard it right! The commercial value of trees is unconquerable. It creates Rs. 10.5 lakhs worth of air pollution control and also provides Rs. 5.3 lakhs worth of shelter for birds and animals. In addition to all of this, it also recycles Rs. 6.4 lakhs worth of fertility and soil erosion control. This is stated by Dr. T. Ramaprasad in one of his innumerable published writings. A Citizen Journalist, he has contributed immensely for noble social service through his art of vigorous, critical, incisive and invasive writings of public and national interest in newspapers and magazines on a vast range of topics for over 40 years.

Can you imagine the loss of cutting or fellingof one tree? The city loses something worth more than Rs. 32 lakhs. A mature, leafy tree produces as much oxygen during aseason as 10 people inhale in a whole year. A tree that lives for 50 yearsgenerates Rs. 5.3 lakhs worth of oxygen. According to the U.S.Department of Agriculture, One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbondioxide and puts out four tons of oxygen. Trees contribute to theirenvironment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife.

Trees havesupported and sustained life throughout our existence. They have a wide varietyof practical and commercial uses. Both above and below ground, trees areessential to the eco-systems in which they reside. The main reason we liketrees is because they are both beautiful and majestic. No two are alike.

Of course, hundreds ofliving creatures call trees their home. The strength, long lifespan and regalstature of trees give them a monument-like quality. Most of us react to thepresence of trees with a pleasant, relaxed, comfortable feeling.  Theshift in emphasis toward forestry in partnership with rural people is,therefore, a significant departure from earlier perceptions, policies andpractices. Delhi Is Gasping Again, And This Time, Even the Clouds Refused to Help

Delhi is choking again. AQI levels have slipped into the ‘severe’ zone, cloud seeding failed, and emergency measures barely make a dent. Because the city doesn’t need one-off fixes, it needs long-term healing. Trees remain the simplest, most effective answer. They absorb carbon, trap dust, cool the air, and act as natural lungs. If Delhi wants cleaner winters, it needs more green cover, not just temporary interventions. Clouds may not cooperate, but trees always will.
