Native to China, it is best known for its flowers that resemble danglinghandkerchiefs. It can grow up to 25 meters or 82 feet in height.

It is popularlygrown as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens. Its flowers sometimes resembledoves resting on the branches. The seed germination can take up to eighteen months, but seedlings and saplings grow rapidly, almost as though to make up for lost time.
