Rohit Parekh
October 2, 1940 - August 7, 2017
Rohit Parekh left us on August 7, 2017 in Boise, Idaho. He was surrounded by Vibha, Samira and Kunal, daughter-in-law Angela, and grandson Ryan at his time of death. Rohit had been suffering from a liver disorder, and succumbed to recent bouts of infection and related complications. His body could no longer support his life, but his will to live was with him to the very end. His spirit was not broken and will live on with us.
Rohit lived an active life, and was religious in his exercise regimen all the way to the end. He ran half marathons on trails in the rocky mountains with 3000 ft elevation change several times in his 60s and more recently slowed down to 3-4 mile hikes with 700 ft elevation as recently as a year ago to celebrate his 75 year of life. For those who knew him, he was an eternal optimist, he had a keen intellect, and an interest in history and geography and was well read on these topics. He believed in simplicity and was not one to seek the spotlight.
Rohit considered himself fortunate to have met his wife Vibha in the 6th standard and they shared life together for 52 years, raising their children with love and giving them good values and opportunity, often making sacrifices for them. He further extended this to his grandchildren, but with a bit more spoiling! And the grand kids adored him.
Rohit and Vibha's greatest joy came from spending time with their two grandchildren Ryan (Kunal's son) and Juliana (Samira's daughter), and he was fortunate to spend a few months every year with each of them.
Rohit had a rewarding career. He received a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University in 1964, and had a long and fulfilling career. During his working life, he formed deep friendships, mentored many and kept in touch with so many through correspondence and engagement for decades. He always has a kind word or story about his co-workers and friend
