Red Gum

“Red Gum is named for its red gum effusions found on its trunk.

It is native to Western Australia and can reach a height of 50 meters or 160 feet in the wild. Also called Marri, its flowers are usually white to pink and found from summer to autumn.

Its nuts, commonly called “”Honkey nuts”” are large and carry seeds. It is an important food source for some species of parrots including cockatoos. It was useful to the Aboriginal people as they soaked the blossom in water to make a sweet drink and ate the seeds and gum as a cure for diarrhoea. ”
