It can reach a height of 80+ feet depending on the environment. It has a deep and extensive root system with road cuts exposing roots up to 24 feet.

The acorns take 18 months to mature and are one to three inches in length. They were used by the Native Americans as a food staple and its roasted seeds used as a coffee substitute.”
