| Chne chapelle is an oak tree located in Allouville-Bellefosse in France. It is the most famous tree in France, its a building and a religious monument all in one. The oak tree is said to be around 1,000 years old. Its hollow trunk hosts two chapels, which were built there in 1669 – Notre Dame de la Paix (“Our Lady of Peace”) and the Chambre de l’Ermite (“Hermit’s room”). A spiral staircase around the trunk provides access to the chapels. The oak is the site of a pilgrimage on August 15 (Assumption of Mary). Read more here – http://goo.gl/nrD1Q |
