Mangrove plants

A Mangrove is a highly productive ecosystem, with important economic and environmental functions. Other than providing habitats for fish, crabs, oysters, lobsters and shrimp, its roots also provide attachment surfaces for marine organisms like oysters and sponges.

Mangrove plants filter out pollution, stabilize, sediments, hold nutrient and protect the shoreline from erosion. They are also a source of honey and medicines. It is highly capable of growing in conditions such as high salinity and polluted waters, which are highly unfavourable for other plants. This is because they have breathing roots above water.

It provides remedies to a range of ailments. Famous Meswak is also a kind of Mangrove.
