Indian Devil tree

Indian Devil tree or Dita Bark is an elegant evergreen tree which is found in most parts in India. The timber of this tree is too soft and was traditionally used to made wooden slates for school children.
In popular imagination, it is considered to be the abode of the devil, hence its name. On the Western Ghats, tribal people are reluctant to sit or pass under this tree, for the fear of the devil.
Almost all parts of this tree contain some toxicity. In India the bark of this tree i.e. Dita Bark is used solely for medicinal purposes, ranging from Malaria and epilepsy to skin conditions and asthma.
