The art of growing bonsai trees is often referred to by its Japanese name, but Bonsai actually became a popular art under the Han dynasty in China. One of the oldest-known bonsai trees is a 500 year-old Needle Pine known as Sandai-Shogun-No Matsu. It is currently on display in the Tokyo Imperial Palace in Japan.
