Cabbage tree

The Cabbage tree is endemic to New Zealand and can grow upto 66 feet in height.
It was used as a source of food in the South Island by the Mori’s and was cultivated in areas where other crops would not grow.
The Mori’s had rich knowledge of the cabbage tree, including spiritual, ecological and many practical aspects of its use. They applied the juice from its leaves to cuts, cracks and sores while the liquid from boiled shoots was taken for other stomach pains.
