| Ashoka is an evergreen tree with an erect trunk and leaves as large as 9 to 12 inches in length. Its flowering takes place from January to May. It is worshiped by Hindus on the 13th day of the month of Chaitra (27th December) and Buddhists, worldwide venerate it because Gautama Buddha was born under this tree. It is also used for various medicinal purposes where the pulp of the blossoms is used to treat dysentery and crushed flowers and leaves are rubbed on the skin to get relief from skin diseases. |
