Cornelian cherry

Cornelian cherry is a small tree growing to around 40 feet in height.

The ripe fruit is dark ruby red or bright yellow in colour and falls from the tree soon after it is fully ripe. The edible fruit taste is described as a mixture of cranberry and sour cherry and is used for making jam. It is widely consumed in Eastern Europe and Iran and used in traditional Chinese medicine.

It flowers during winter and is planted for ornamental purposes.
