Green Cypress trees

The Cypress tree can survive for up to 2,000 years or more. While other deciduous trees (Grey colour in the picture) lose their leaves during winter, the Cypress tree retains its leaves giving it a mythical status in ancient times.

It is often depicted in Persian carpets as the “Tree of Life”. Bottom left in the picture – a Cypress tree carved in relief at the Persepolis complex near Shiraz, Iran.
