| Sweet Cherry tree is a deciduous tree growing 50 to 100 feet in height. It is native to Europe, parts of Asia and North Africa. All parts of the tree are slightly toxic except the ripe fruit. The tree releases a gum from wounds in its bark by which it seals the wounds to exclude insects and fungal infections. Peak season for cherries is the summer. Traditional medicine prepared from the stalks of the drupes is used as an astringent, cough suppressant and diuretic. A green dye is prepared from the tree. |
