| Saffron is one of the costliest spice in the world and is native to Greece and Southwest Asia. It can cost up to $10,000 per kilogram. It fares poorly in shady conditions and grows best in full sunlight. It is used for colouring food, especially sweet dishes and Kashmiri dishes like chicken curry, soups, etc. Saffron is also used as an antiseptic, antidepressant and has antioxidants that cure digestive disorders. Studies show that saffron may protect the eyes from the direct effects of bright light and retinal stress. |
