| Ruby-lipped Cattleya was discovered in 1818 in Brazil. It was named in honor of Sir William Cattley, a prominent British horticulturist. It mainly grows on other tall trees in the tropical slope forest covering several mountain ranges in northeast Brazil, but also can be found growing directly over rocks whenever fairly strong wind is constant. The altitude it occurs is usually above 500 meters and the growth cycle is mostly influenced by the rainy and dry seasons. |
