| Japanese Plum is a small evergreen tree grown for its yellow fruit and ornamental purposes. The fruit is succulent and tangy with the flesh being white, yellow or orange and can be sweet to subacid or acid depending on the cultivation. They are the sweetest when soft and orange. The flavor is said to be a mix of peach, citrus and mild mango. Its fruit mixes well with other fruits in fresh fruit salads or fruit cups. They are commonly used to make jam, jelly and chutney. It is low in saturated fat and sodium, high in vitamin A, dietary fiber, potassium and manganese. In Chinese medicine, the syrup is used for soothing the throat while the leaves along with other ingredients is used to assuage the digestive and respiratory systems. |
