Gaping Dutchman

Gaping Dutchman’s Pipe is a tall ornamental plant native to tropical America and is now cultivated throughout the tropical world.

The flower tube ascends obliquely from the sack dividing into two very long lips. These two lips give an impression of a gaping mouth.

It grows in a number of African countries and has been reported to be used in traditional medicine for treating snake bite venom, gastrointestinal disturbances, rheumatoid arthritis and insomnia.
