| Carolina Jasmine grows up to 3 to 6 meters in height when given suitable climbing support by trees. It is native to tropical America. The flowers have a strong scent and produce nectar attracting a range of pollinators. It was used in the past to treat measles, tonsillitis, muscular rheumatism and headaches. However, all parts of this plant are toxic and harmful if consumed. Even the sap causes skin irritation in some individuals. Children mistake this flower for honeysuckle and are poisoned after sucking the nectar from the flower. It is the state flower of South Carolina. |
