| Cape gooseberry or Ras bhari as known to Indians is indigenous to South America. The fruit is a smooth berry that resembles a miniature yellow tomato and is popular in restaurants as an exotic garnish for desserts. It was grown by early settlers of the Cape of Good Hope before 1807. In folk medicine it has been used as a medicinal herb to treat asthma, hepatitis, dermatitis or rheumatism. However, this is yet to be proved clinically. |
