| Azaleas bloom in spring in the Northern hemisphere and in winter in the Southern hemisphere. Their flowers often last for several weeks. They prefer living near or under trees. Plant enthusiasts have selectively bred azaleas for hundreds of years. The azalea is one of the symbols of the city of So Paulo, Brazil. In addition to its renowned beauty, the plant is highly toxic as it contains andromedotoxins in both its leaves and nectar, including honey from the nectar. |
