Acacia tree

The Lonely Tree of Tnr, an Acacia tree, is world famous for standing alone in the expanse of Sahara and was estimated to be 300 years old when it met an unexpected death in 1973.

It was the only one for over 400 km and it was discovered that its roots drew water from a source 35 meters underground in the desert.

It got knocked down in 1973 by an allegedly drunk Truck driver. The remains of the Tree of Tnr is kept in the National museum of Niamey, Niger.
