Sagano Bamboo Forest

The Sagano Bamboo Forest can be found at Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan and covers an area of 16 sq. kms.. It is one of the most beautiful natural environment in entire Japan not because of its natural beauty but the sound the wind makes as it blows through the thick bamboo grove.

The sound of the wind in this bamboo forest has been voted as one of “one hundred must-be-preserved sounds of Japan” by the Japanese government.

In the 1870’s when Thomas Edison was looking for a good bamboo as a material of a filament for his early light bulb, the governor of Kyoto recommended two sources for bamboo, this being one of them, but Edison used the other one.
