| Royal Palm, these tall, stately palms are from Cuba with smooth, grey trunks that look like they are made of concrete, topped by prominent green crowshafts. They have large, spreading crowns of feathery leaves and inconspicuous flowers and fruit. It is frequently planted in formal arrangements around historical monuments. The smooth leaf-sheaths are utilized as waterproof coverings for tobacco bales and the fruit are fed to pigs. |
