| SBI Life Insurance plants 58,000 Trees for Rural Communities™. Out of the 58,000 trees, 38,000 trees are planted at Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh and 20,000 trees at Amravati in Maharashtra. At Madanapalle, trees are planted in community-protected revenue wastelands to give rural communities fruit, fodder, fuel and forest produce. At Amravati, trees are planted in large tracts of degraded forest lands which are under tremendous anthropogenic pressure. The trees will benefit communities like Dhanghar, Gawlis, Kathiawadi who are dependent on livestock for regular grazing and fodder. Grow-Trees.com initiated this project with participation from the communities to assist natural regeneration. Approximately 4,748 workdays of jobs have been created for the local community. These trees will not only improve the environmental conditions in the area but also provide indirect empowerment to rural communities along with fruits, fodder and non-timber forest produce. The project has been adopted by SBI Life Insurance, a leader in insurance services and in green initiatives. |
