Madrone

The Madrone is an evergreen tree with a rich orange-red bark that naturally peels away in thin sheets when mature leaving silvery appearance and smoothness.
It likes the sun and is known to twist and turn to find if a competing fir tree tries to outgrow it. It gets its name from the Spanish word madroo which means strawberry tree.
In Canada, it is known as the Arbutus Tree while the European species is quite different and is also called a Strawberry Tree.
