| Bhringaraja or Bhangra has three kinds – white-flowering, yellow flowering, and the black-fruiting. They all grow throughout India by marshes, rivers, lakes and also on the foothills of the Himalayas. As it contains the alkaloid ecliptine, lactones, and the antiviral agent glucoside, it has been effectively used in the treatment of jaundice. It is also used all over India as a hair oil and is called ‘Keshraja’ in Sanskrit which means “the king of hair”. The root powder and oil together are rubbed on the forehead for headaches. |
