Rowan

Rowan is a deciduous tree that can live up to 200 years.

It can grow to a height of 30 to 40 feet and is related to Rose, Apple, Hawthorn, Blackthorn and Cherry trees.

The berry is bitter but mixed with sugar and used in pies, jelly or jams. It is also made into juice and wine. The Berries contain various vitamins that stimulate the immune system.

It has been used to treat sore throats, inflamed tonsils and diarrhoea. It is one of the most sacred trees in Scottish folk tradition.
