Jatropha

Jatropha is native to the tropics of North America.

It can reach a height of 20 feet and grows well in an arid climate thereby allowing it to be grown in deserts. It is said to have the capacity of growing wherever it is planted.

It is used as a living fence to protect gardens and fields from animals and can be found in coffee plantations. Most parts of the plant are harmful to humans and animals.

The leaves, seeds and oil are used to treat ulcer, tumour, scabies, wound, skin diseases, rheumatism and paralysis. The oil obtained from its seed can produce Biodiesel and Glycerin. After extracting oil from the seed, the oil cakes serve as an organic manure for crops.
