| Oriental Poppy is native to the Caucasus, northeastern Turkey and northern Iran. After flowering, it quietly folds up and remains dormant until autumn when a fresh rosette of foliage appears. It is planted for ornamental purposes. In the western nations, it is a symbol of remembrance for those who died during the First World War in Europe. This species does not produce any narcotic alkaloids such as morphine or codeine. |
