Maidenhair tree

Ginkgo or Maidenhair tree is renowned worldwide for its medicinal properties. The tree remains virtually unchanged today and represents the only living bridge between ‘higher’ and ‘lower’ plants between ferns and conifers.

In autumn, the leaves of the Ginkgo tree turn a beautiful golden hue before falling to the ground. It is the national tree of China and the official tree of the Japanese capital of Tokyo.

The tree has been used in traditional medicine in Japan and China for hundreds of years. The seeds are used to treat a variety of ailments from asthma to fever while the leaf extract has been shown to increase circulation and used to treat a range of ailments including Alzheimer’s disease.
