Frost Flower

It is a state in which thin layers of ice exit from long-stemmed plants in early winter. These thin layers of ice form into beautiful patterns that curl into petals that resemble flowers.

The formation of frost flowers occurs when the ground is not already frozen. The sap in the stem of the plants will expand causing long, thin cracks to form along the length of the stem. Water is then drawn through these cracks via capillary action and freezes upon contact with the air.

Its petals are very delicate and break when touched. They melt when exposed to sunlight and are visible early morning .
