Desert Date tree

Desert Date tree is native to most of Africa and the Middle East. It is said to be tolerant of flooding, livestock activity and wildfire.

It is used to treat worm infections along with liver and spleen disorders. In West African traditional medicine, a decoction of the bark is used as an antidote for arrow-poison.

The tree fixes nitrogen and is grown for its fruit in several areas. Its bark yields fibers, the natural gums from the branches are used as glue and the seeds have been used to make jewellery and beads.
