Bael Tree

Bael Tree – A Sacred Tree in Hinduism.

Bael is considered to be very sacred as it is associated with Lord Shiva. It is said that Lord Shiva is pleased by offerings of leaves from this tree.

Planting this tree around homes or temples is sanctifying and is equivalent to worshiping Shiva Linga with leaves and water. The trifoliate leaf or tripatra of the bel tree is believed to symbolize the three functions of the Lord-the creation, preservation and destruction as well as his three eyes.

The offering of the leaves is a compulsory ritual while worshiping Lord Shiva. The most terrible karma is destroyed when this leaf is offered to Lord Shiva.
