Almond

Almond or Badam as known in India is a deciduous tree and can grow to 33 feet in height. It is native to the Middle East and South Asia.

It reaches full bearing 5 to 6 years after planting. The fruit matures in the autumn around 7 to 8 months after flowering.

The almond nuts are an excellent source of vitamin E and is gluten free. It is also a great source of minerals such as manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium.

In 2011, the USA exported about 637,000 metric tons valued at US$2.8 billion.
