Turmeric

Turmeric is native to India and southern Asia. It became known as ‘Indian saffron’ in medieval Europe since it was widely used as an alternative to the far more expensive saffron spice.
Turmeric boiled in sweetened milk is a popular remedy for cold and cough. It is also given in liver ailments and jaundice.
It is an anti-inflammatory and has been used for treating arthritis, allergies, asthma, and eczema. Nizamabad in Andhra Pradesh is the world’s largest producer and an important trading center of turmeric in Asia.
